A VICTORIAN SILVER INKSTAND
by Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater, London 1852, of shaped oval form, with a heavily cast scrolling foliate and shell rim, centrally in fitted mounts sit two silver-mounted faceted glass inkwells, each with a circular pull-off cover decorated with scrolling foliage and flowerheads, between a taperstick with a conformingly decorated nozzle above a plain urn-shaped sconce, with a knopped stem and terminating on a shaped circular foot, all raised on four scroll feet. 24.5cm wide, 14.2 troy ounces (excl. glass inkwells)
Hallmarks are generally clear a couple rubbed. A large chip out of the foot of one inkwell and various small nibbles out of the faceted glass corners on both, however the silver-mounts are in good condition. The taperstick with surface scratches to the central knop and a the mount under the foot is slightly mishapen, the base of the stand sits square and is in good condition.
