A Victorian Irish silver Monteith bowl with presentation engraving.

A Victorian Irish silver Monteith bowl, of circular form, the typical notched rim with applied scroll edge detailed with female head surmounts, above bands of shallow fluting to the main body enclosing a presentation engraved oval panel within scrolled surround, and the whole raised on a circular domed foot with an oblique gadroon style border. Hallmarked West & Son, Dublin 1882. Maximum height 8" (20.5cm), weight 37.41 ozt (1163.7 grams).
Engraving reads, 'Presented to Major Smyth On His Marriage By His Brother Officers of the Lancashire Fusiliers, 13th Sept. 1883.'

Condition Report:
- Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general expected surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with the age and use. Some tarnishing throughout and would benefit from a clean and polish.
- A couple of minor surface dints or bruises and a couple of knocks around the foot rim.
- Some heavier scratches and nicks visible to the interior of the bowl.
- Some visible seam or construction lines, particularly around the rim when viewed from the interior.
- Some surface rubbing and slight loss of detail to areas of the decoration but generally in good order overall.
- Hallmarks located to main body, just below the girdle, these are rubbed with distortion to some.
