A Victorian silver melon-shaped teapot, London, c.1843, maker's mark rubbed, the lobed body raised on four ornate scroll feet, the hinged lid capped with leaf design to scalloped edge and C-scroll handle with ivory spacers, presentation engraving to body stating that the teapot was presented to RG Abbott from the inhabitants of Darlington in approbation of his public services in that town, approx. weight 23.8oz Provenance: gifted from the people of Darlington to RTG Abbott, land Agent for the Castle Howard Estate; thence by descent.
