A Victorian sterling silver part-tea service, London 1879 by Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst (James Johnson & John Charles Walker) Comprising a teapot and milk jug, of shaped ogee oval form with beaded rims. The teapot with tubular spout opposite an turned ivory C scroll handle pinned to fluted sockets. The hinged flush lid with gently domed fluted centre surmounted by a detachable turned ivory finial. With bright cut engraved bands of rosettes and lunettes, the sides with pendant swags and stylised scroll rosettes. One side engraved with a crest of a broken globe surmounted by a rainbow, the opposing side with initials CAH in cypher. Each fully marked, the lid with part marks and maker mark to finials wing nut of Robert Hennell IV. The teapot stamped underneath with numerals 14972 and a quatrefoil. (2) Teapot length – 29 cm / 11.4 inches Weight – 902 grams / 29 ozt The crest is for Hope Hope family, stockbrokers at R. Genti Hope, later becoming part of Brewin & Dolphin, thence by descent.
