A Victorian sterling silver shaving jug, London 1899 by Robert Pringle & Sons
Of tapering cylindrical form with reeded rims, a loop handle fitted with ivory insulators, the hinged domed lid raised by a trefid thumbpiece. The front engraved with dual crests; out of a naval crown, the sails, an eagle's head, and two arms erect issuing from clouds in the act of removing from a spike a human skull, above the skull a marquess's coronet, all between two palm-branches. The crests above the initials EH G in gothic script cypher. Fully marked to the side and part-marked to the lid.
