A West African Qur'an in a contemporary carrying case, in Arabic, decorated manuscript on paper [Western Africa (probably Nigeria), late nineteenth or early twentieth century] single unbound volume, uncollatable and probably incomplete, single column, 15 lines of sepia maghribi text with diacritics and vocalisation in red, many leaves chipped at edges with losess to text, faded and worn, leaves set in place by two curved leather boards, c. 170 by 125 mm.; preserved in a beautifully crafted carrying case with ornamental twisted leather strap, front of box with red, white and brown geometric patterns sewn into the leather, with a loose tassle for closing the box, in clean and presentable condition
