Hand-Hammered Japonesque Silver Pitcher, New York, circa 1880 Marks: W.M WILSON & SON, STERLING, 813, A 7-1x2 x 5 x 8 inches (19.1 x 12.7 x 20.3 cm) 850 grams (27.33 troy ounces) The pitcher with hand-hammered ground featuring applied crab on bed of chased overlapping oyster shells and seaweed. Originally retailed by W.M. Wilson & Son, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This pitcher without maker's mark relates direclty to the fully marked Whiting example sold January 2011: Christie's, New York, Important American Silver Including Magnificent Tiffany, lot 66. The current lot is marked 813 duplicating the mark to the Whiting crab pitcher sold in November 2010: Heritage Auctions, Dallas, Texas, Fine Silver & Vertu Auction #5051, lot 68255.
