A William IV silver toast rack, of kidney shape with six divisions and central foliate detailed handle, raised on an open stretcher base with gadroon rim and four foliate shell feet, hallmarked Richard Pearce & George Burrows, London 1835, length 6.5" (16.5cm). Together with a late Victorian example of simple arched form, hallmarked William Hutton & Sons (Edward Hutton), London 1892. Weight 22.29 ozt (693.6 grams). (2).
Condition Report:
- William IV toast rack displaying some surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing consistent with the age and general use.
- Residues of old polish visible.
- Slightly misshapen overall. One end bar leans in a little.
- Central bar with handle also has a slight lean. With repairs and a crack at the joins to the base.
- Further cracks and repairs are visible, around other joins and to feet.
- Now also with a slight wobble.
- Hallmarks located to the underside of the central bar and these clear and legible.
- Late Victorian example now almost black with tarnish and requires cleaning.
- Hallmarks located to base and in good order.
