A William de Morgan 'Isnik' Charger, circa 1888-1897, decorated by Charles Passenger, the shape after an Iznik metalwork original, with a central floral boss with a bird, surrounded by a band of tulips and the outer rim with five panels of leaves, the reverse with concentric circles in blue and turquoise, painted mark `W.DE.MORGAN & CO' and `CP' monogram, early Fulham period, 40.5cm diameterChief assistant Charles Passenger painted at Fulham in London, where De Morgan moved his works in 1889 to avoid the long daily commute to Merton Abbey.Provenance: From the Mohamed Makiya CollectionCondition Report: area of glaze loss to white glazed rim approximately 2cm x 1cm and about five other more minor areas of glaze loss on outer white glazed rim 1cm x 3mm and smaller foot rim with areas of glaze loss to white glazed rim approximately 3cm x 1.2cm, 1.5cm x 7mm, 1.4cm x 6mm and some other very small lossescrazing throughout to glaze and some kiln glaze run no obvious cracks but difficult to be certain possible hair crack to central boss running 4mm or could be glaze crack Condition Report Disclaimer
