A beautiful Byzantine bronze reliquary cross
A beautiful Byzantine bronze reliquary cross, c. 10th - 12th Century AD, or enkolpion, both original halves together with original suspension loop. One side bears an incised image of the crucified Christ, the other with the Virgin Orans, MP ?Y; mother of God' above. Nicely detailed and a choice example! H: 2 3/8 in(6 cm). Nice glossy olive-green patina. Ex Barstow, CA family collection acquired prior to 1990.
