A beautiful Majapahit terracotta head of a woman, East Java, c. 14th Century, extremely well-modeled in fine style with detailed features and wearing earrings, her hair styled into four buns, one on each side of the head and the last on top, the curls and lines accented by incising. 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 2 5/8 in (6.4 x 6.4 x 6.7 cm). Light deposits and a fine example! Heads such as this are more often than not found broken from the bodies of Majapahit figures, perhaps indicating they were ritually decapitated.
