A black opal and diamond ring
A black opal and diamond ring,
a circular cabochon black opal, 7.32-7.25 x 2.90mm, four claw set, with old eight cut diamonds grain set to the shoulders, and a grooved shank. Tested as approximately platinum. 2.46g.

Condition report:
Opal is a solid opal, not a doublet, with the play-of-colour largely confined to the top surface/table.
Opal slightly loose in setting.
Underneath of opal and diamonds a little dirty, would benefit from being cleaned.
Underbezel split from shank on one side.
Some wear to claws, one claw slightly away from stone.
Some minor scratches/abrasions to the crown of the opal, visible under 10x magnification, not easily visible with the naked eye.
Surface marks/scratches to mount.
Solder joins visible on either side of shank where half shank has been replaced.
