A calligrapher's exercise by Mustafa Rakim (1757-1826), Ottoman Turkey, 18th century, with dense thuluth script and gold and polychrome roundels, mounted, glazed and framed, panel 21.6 x 13.5cm. Mustafa Râkim was an Ottoman calligrapher who extended and reformed Hâfiz Osman's style, placing greater emphasis on technical perfection, which broadened the calligraphic art to encompass the Sülüs script as well as the Nesih script.
