A cased pair of percussion pistols, Tanner of Hanover, circa 1840The octagonal barrels in blued wrapped Damascus steel, bores in 14 mm calibre with fine hair rifling. Dovetailed sights in iron with adjustable rear sights. The muzzle and root of the barrel with inlaid gold bands. The signature "Tanner in Hannover" inlaid in gold at the breech. Blued locks with finely engraved decorative tendrils, the cocks with folding nipple protectors. Gold-inlaid marks with the signature "Tanner Hannover" on the lock plates. Adjustable single set triggers. The half stocks in walnut, the butts with fine chequering. Vacant silver thumb plates, blued iron furniture with engraved floral ornaments. Original ramrods with brass tips. Length of each 37.5 cm.In a walnut case, a folding brass handle inset on the lid. Lockable, the key is included. The interior lined in green felt, the manufacturer's paper label pasted into the lid. Five interior compartments with removable lids, containing accessories consisting of cleaning rod and ramrod, powder measure, bullet mould and powder flask. Dimensions of the case 6.5 x 42 x 27.5 cm.Carl Daniel Tanner (1791 - 1858) started work in the Crause armaments factory in Herzberg, became independent in 1827 and moved to Hannover in 1829. He later worked for the court there and was appointed "Hofrüstmeister" (court gun maker).Condition: I -
