A chiselled and partly gilt deluxe flintlock rifle, D. Meyer, Vienna, circa 1730
Beschreibung: Round and smooth Damascus steel barrel with midrib in 14.5 mm calibre with silver front sight. At the breech a cut three-dimensional depiction of Pallas Athene underneath a canopy with shield and eagle on a finely punched gold ground. Gilt flintlock cut with rocailles and trophy bundles, and signature "D. MEYER A. W." between the arms of the frizzen spring. Walnut full stock with elaborately carved tendrils and mascaron, horn nose. Fine gilt bronze furniture cut with flowers, on the butt cap and trigger guard a female portrait bust. The escutcheon with ligated monogram "B N" underneath a royal crown. Original wooden ramrod with horn tip. Deluxe flintlock rifle of exceptional craftsmanship and preservation. Length 141.5 cm. D. Meyer (Meier), presumably a family member of Felix Meier, Vienna (1672 - 1739), known for his Damascus steel barrels.
