Meiji period, late 19th century
the oval vase on short foot and broad neck rim, decorated in various coloured enamels and thicknesses of gold wire, with two panels of butterflies among chrysanthemums, wisteria and other flowers and foliage on a light blue ground, bordered by interspersed pierced roundels of flowers and butterflies, surrounded by flower heads on a black ground, the shoulder with a band of lappets, the domed cover with chrysanthemum (kiku) finial
