of rectangular form with rounded corners on four feet, with two applied silver handles in the form of karashishi masks, and the domed cover with a silver finial with a karashishi and brocade ball, copper-gilt rims, decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels and worked in various thicknesses of gold and silver wire, with two panels depicting a further karashishi among scrolling foliage and a ho-o bird among flowers, all bordered by scattered flowerheads and scrolling foliage, the domed cover similarly decorated
