Lot details A collection of 19th Century and later books and ephemera, primarily relating to the Caledonian Railway and Scottish ports and harbours, including: Caledonian Railway: Regulations for the Guidance of Train Examiners and Greasers, January 1920; Rules of the Caledonian Steam Packet Company Limited, 1907; Glasgow and South Western Railway Company: Ayr Harbour Bye-Laws, 1913; Glasgow and South Western Railway Company: Troon Harbour Bye-Laws & Regulations, 1919; Glasgow & Kilmarnock Joint Railway: The Explosives Act 1875 Bye Laws, signed 1909; and others; together with The Picture of Glasgow, 3rd Edition, R. Chapman, Glasgow, 1818; and a selection of 18th Century and later Scottish indentures. Provenance: This lot comes from the estate of Eric ‘The Railway Man’ Lomax and his wife, Patricia ‘Patti’ Wallace Lomax. Eric Sutherland Lomax, born in Edinburgh, was a member of The Royal Corps of Signals during the Second World War and was stationed in Singapore until 1941, when his unit was captured by the Japanese army. His account of his experience is documented in his book The Railway Man, which was adapted into the 2013 blockbuster film of the same title, starring Colin Firth as Lomax, and Nicole Kidman as Patti. Lomax was an avid railway enthusiast, and these documents are from his collection.Request a condition report
