The octagonal, blued barrel with eight-groove rifled bore in 10 mm calibre. Dovetailed, adjustable target sight, the hunting sight for alternative use is also included. The signature "Schneevoigt in Lahr" inlaid in gold at the breech. Finely engraved snail with patent breechblock. Marbled lock with finely etched tendrils, a repeated signature engraved continuously around the cock. Adjustable German set trigger. The half stock made of amboina burl wood with dark horn nose. Marbled furniture engraved with fine decorative tendrils. Appliquéd silver thumb plate with the monogram "CS", presumably for "Christoph Schneevoigt", making this the gunsmith's personal weapon. Length 122 cm. In the associated, lockable walnut case, the lid somewhat warped, does not close completely. With the original hollow shank key. The interior lined in green velvet. Extensive set of finely wrought accessories: bullet mould, patch punch, powder measure, ramrod and cleaning rod with a threaded knob, screwdriver and nipple wrench with cleaning pick. Also includes a brass starter with a hinged device to accommodate both patches and bullets, plus a ring and bead sight. The locking screws of the sight and the aperture sight adjustable by means of pentagon screws. The matching key is enclosed. Dimensions of the case 8.5 x 87 x 27 cm. Magnificent percussion rifle wrought with outstanding workmanship. In almost mint condition. Published and illustrated in DWJ 11/1996. Heinrich Björn Christoph Schneevoigt is documented from 1818-78, listed as an apprentice in Schleswig in 1822, worked in Schleswig-Holstein and Lahr in Baden.
