A fantastic Egyptian wooden scribe's palette
A fantastic Egyptian wooden scribe's palette, c. 1200 - 664 BC, rectangular, with six circular depressions containing pigment and central rectangular recession for reed brushes, lid now lost, which is bordered by two vertical columns of hieroglyphic text. The palette is decorated with five bone inlays and is in an amazing state of preservation. 9 5/8 x 3 1/4 in (24.4 x 8.3 cm). Some staining and age splitting. A very rare and marvelous example! Ex London, UK private collection.
