Hammer

£700

A fine 18th century French 18ct tri-colour gold verge repeating pocket watch by Jaques Castagnet. The fusee movement signed Castagnet A Paris 1701, with pierced balance bridge, gilt three arm balance, and silvered regulating disc, the hammer striking a gong and with cylindrical pillars, with a plunge stem, the 32mm white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions and winding hole at the 2 o'clock position, case makers mark GM, the case back with a flower head, engine turned decoration and stiff leaf edging, 42mm, 61.4g. This currently winds and runs. The plunge stem works and it strikes the full 12 hours, however the gong isn't ringing. When moving the hour hand to another position the strike doesn't change, so needs attention. The back of the case has three small dents and wear to the engine turned decoration. There is a small chip to the enamel on the winding hole. Also there appears to be a laquered finish on the dial which is pealing. We do not guarantee the working order of movements and recommend a full service after purchasing.
