A fine Victorian satinwood, ebony and amboyna card table
in the manner of Lamb of Manchester
Inlaid with ivory lines and applied with gilt metal beaded mounts, the rectangular swivel top enclosing a velvet lined interior above a frieze applied with blue jasper-ware Wedgwood roundels, on line inlaid supports, on outswept legs and castors, 92cm wide, 46cm deep, 73cm high.
James Lamb (1817-1903) was one of the most successful regional British cabinet makers of the late 19th century. They exhibited in many International exhibitions and employed well known freelance designers such as Alfred Waterhouse and Bruce Talbert. Lamb produced good quality and elegant furniture aimed mainly at the wealthy middle classes.
