A fine pair of late George III silver sauce boats.

A fine pair of late George III silver sauce boats, each of oval bellied form with applied gadroon rim above further applied scrolls to the main body, having an engraved coat of arms below the lip with bird crest and motto beneath, a leaf capped scroll handle and raised on four similarly scrolled feet. Hallmarked London 1813, maker's mark IH, probably John Houle. Overall length 8" (20.5cm) and height 4.75" (12cm), weight 43.12 ozt (1341 grams).

Condition Report:
- Motto reads, 'Cum Parvo Gladio Vici ('I Conquer With a Small Sword').
- Both of heavy gauge and appear in good overall condition.
- Both displaying expected surface wear and tarnishing. Also some general contact marks, scratches and nicks, commensurate with their age and use.
- One example with possible minor rim repair to one side of handle, vertical line is visible with pitting marks and measures around 1cm.
- Other example with very slight impression seen to the interior from the join of one foot where surface also appears a little pitted.
- Both with some heavier scratches, nicks and pitting marks seen to interior, and slight uneven surface in places.
- Some slight gaps appearing around some of applied decoration and feet but generally in good order and both appear sturdy on their feet.
- Engraved coats of arms also appear in good order and retain much detail.
- Hallmarks located to the base, these with some rubbing but still all clearly legible.
