A fine pair of southern German percussion pistols with chiseled mounts, circa 1780

Description: Round tapered smoothbore barrels in cal. 12 mm. The barrels blued at the time, with a distinct bar on top, finely chiselled with tendrils on gilded ground. The locks elegantly converted to percussion, finely engraved with elaborate tendrils and flowers, the base of the pistons inlaid in gold. Carved walnut full stocks with beautiful grain, the iron mounts extensively embellished with masterfully executed floral and tendril engravings on punch dot gilded background. The fore-end with horn tips. One fore-end with small wood chip (missing) near a barrel pin. Wooden ramrods with horn tips. Length 33 cm each. An unusually well-made pair of pistols in excellent condition.
