[ translate ]

A five piece George II style walnut games suite
probably supplied by Frances Elkins
20th century
Comprising a table and four armchairs.
table height 28 1/2in (72.5cm); width 30 1/2in (77.5cm); depth 31in (79cm)
Footnote:
This model of table is seen in a number of Elkins installations including the home of Mr. & Mrs. James D. Zellerbach, San Francisco, 1937 (see S. Powell, Frances Elkins: Visionary American Designer, New York, 2023, p. 177) and is thought to be based on a Georgian example in Elkins' own collection. The chairs, from the middle of the back down resemble Elkins' 'Spider' chair, which often accompanied the games table in various residences as it is in the Zellerbach home. It is possible the owner requested a modification in the design of the chair to suit their personal aesthetic.
