A fragment of a Roman marble figure, 2nd – 3rd
Marble fragment of a male three-quarter figure in front of remains of a wall panel. The preserved torso naked except for the cloth thrown over the shoulder. The bearded face finely worked out, the hairstyle consists of curls arranged in three rows one above the other. The nose is slightly bumped, a narrow groove runs across the back of the head to the chin, indicating that the forehead has been attached. Masterly modelled figure of a probably larger relief. Height 42 cm.
Provenance: From an old Belgian private collection, then Belgian art trade. Since 2015 on commission in the German art trade.
