A gilt deluxe birding rifle (Teschinke) with rich bone

Slender, octagonal barrel slightly indented in the middle, with eight-groove rifled bore in 8.5 mm calibre. The upper side of the barrel with engraved, chiselled and partly gilt décor. Dovetailed sight. Elaborately decorated wheellock with engraved and gilt decoration. External main spring, spring-loaded pan cover with release button. Walnut stock with rich inlays of engraved and blackened bone and mother of pearl. The forestock with depiction of running fox, hares and dog. On the butt deer and running sphinx. Patch box with inserted lid, the top plate of the lid replaced. Minor restoration at the left end of the butt. Partly gilt, iron trigger guard. Dovetailed, wooden ramrod with tip of dark horn. Length 121 cm.
Provenance:Private collection of the renowned weaponry expert Hans Schedelmann. From the hunting chamber of Count Lemberg, Ottenstein Castle, auction Kende, Vienna 1937, lot 584. Displayed in the Eggenberg hunting lodge near Graz as a loan between 1953 and 1969.
