rectangular with rounded corners, the lid inset with a shaped enamel plaque representing Cupid, two turtle doves at his side, in a classical landscape by a river, within a raised laurel border, on an engine-turned ground within a border of alternating rosettes and other flowerheads on a sablé ground, the sides and base similarly decorated, maker’s mark, Paris 2ème titre and moyenne garantie 1798-1809, the front rim engraved: ‘Marguerite Joaillier de la Couronne & de leurs Majestés Impériales’, later French control marks
