A gold-overlaid steel helmet (kuhla khud), Qajar, Persia, late 18th/19th century

of domed rounded form with applied upper spike faceted finial, adjustable nose guard issuing palmettes at each extremity, with two plume holders, the gold overlaid decoration in a band of inscriptions in cartouches at the base and scrolling palmettes across the body, a main skirt attached around the base lined with navy blue velvet

Condition Report:
The gold overlay design in good condition, some slight weathering to surface and associated rubbing of design, some sections of chain mail missing on one side, interior lined with dark blue velvet and ribbon lining near the edge, some wear, as viewed.
