The interior inscribed in blue 'Success to the Lord's Rodney & Hood' above a flourish, a diaper border below the rim, with an attractive manganese exterior, 23cm diam
Another bowl inscribed for the 'Success of Lord Howe' was sold by Bonhams on 10 September 2008, lot 149. The young Samuel Hood was Midshipman under Rodney when he was Captain of HMS Ludlow Castle as early as 1745. Hood was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1780 serving as second in command to Admiral Rodney in the American Revolutionary War.
