A heavy German bone-inlaid matchlock musket with musket
The octagonal barrel slightly constricted in the middle with eight-groove rifled bore in 18 mm calibre. Dovetailed brass sights. The date "1589" struck on the top of the barrel, with an extra "1" subsequently erroneously added at the other end. Three unidentified hallmarks, a shield divided diagonally with two fields and the mark "IH" struck twice with a star and crescent. An old insert at the breech, filled with brass, for a dovetail front sight. The match snaphaunce lock with a swivelling pan cover, a decorative brass rosette appliquéd on the lock plate. Set trigger. The walnut stock with inlays of engraved and blackened bone. Marked "V" on the underside. The replaced butt cap made of light horn. The wooden ramrod with engraved bone tip. Length 167 cm.
Includes the musket support, with a stock of ebonised wood. Bronze fittings, the support tapering into stylised animal heads. Length 150 cm.
