A helmet, almost certainly a theatrical prop, probably early 20th century, of sallet form and in medieval taste, cast with an integral foliate coronet and inset with semi-precious stones and glass, the interior bearing an indistinct paper label inscribed 'No: 7... Bristol', approximately 25cm high, 24cm longIt is presumed that this was made as a prop for a production at the Theatre Royal in Bristol, the oldest continually-operating theatre in the English-speaking world.Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, and abrasionsThe internal lining is dirty and has signs of use and wearing, the lining is stitched to the rim of the helmet - this is coming apart, pulled, and appears to have been re-stitched Oxidisation and surface corrosion to the metal areas, The label with signs of wear and dirt and fading The 'gems' with some chipping and wear,Please refer to additional images for visual reference to conditionThe helmet weighs 830g not inclduding the wooden stand. The wooden stand is 31cm high, this has clear signs of age and use, it is probably a wig stand that has been associated and re-purposed. Condition Report Disclaimer
