The finely-patinated top formed from well-figured sections, above a recessed frieze ornately carved with floral scrolls, all standing on four shaped cabriole legs descending from a symmetrically-scalloped frieze carved with a raised edge.

Ellsworth, Chinese Hardwood Furniture in Hawaiian Collections, Honolulu, 1982, p.41; a further similar huanghuali low table, Ming dynasty, circa 1550-1600, from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, is illustrated by C. Clunas, Chinese Furniture, London, 1997, pl.52.
