A rare, big size Chinese polychrome enameled Bencharong jar and cover manufactured for South Asia (Thai / Singapore / Straits) market, dated to 19th c. 2nd half, most probably Tongzhi reign (1861-1875) , but possible the jar was manufactured during Guangxu (1875-1908) period. The jar richly decorated in bright polychrome enamels, style became known as bencharong. The jar is painted with typically Thai motifs. The exterior is painted with four Thepanom figures each wearing a broad necklace of petals and seated on a lotus within panels that have a yellow ground. The thepanom is a celestial being from Buddhist cosmology. Panels are placed on turquoise ground with multicolour flowers and dots. In higher part precious and scholar's objects. Cover with similar decoration. Unmarked. Dimensions: Set: diameter - 23,5 cm; height - 26,5 cm. Weight - 2159 g. Jar: diameter - 23,5 cm; height - 18 cm. Weight - 1706 cm Cover: diameter - 16 cm. Conditions report: Virtually perfect condition. Minor firing faults, glaze-cracks, scratches due to age and use. Besides that - very good condition, no chips, no cracks, no restorations.
