A large Chinese 'Rose Mandarin' punch bowl - NO RESERVE PRICE - Porcelain - China - Tonghzi (1861-1875, 同治) period

A large Chinese (Canton) porcelain 'Rose Mandarin' punch bowl. China, mid 19th century, early Tonghzi (1861-1875, 同治) period. Rare in such big size and good condition!

Finely potted with round sides, supported on a short foot. Extensively decorated - exterior with continuous Mandarin garden terrace and interior scene with scholars and court figures, all between iron red lines. Wide band with Chinese symbols, butterflies, fruits and blossom on the gold ground under the top-rim. Edge gilt.

Interior with a central medallion depicting Mandarins garden terrace scene with six persons, surrounded by a circle of peonies and blossom on gold ground; followed by four reserves depicting court scenes alternating with smaller cartouches depicting Chinese symbols and butterflies on ground of peony and foliage on walls. Wide band with three bats, birds, big blue butterflies, gilt coins, flowers and blossom, all on golden ground, under the top-rim.

Daylight and UV-light pictures included.

Dimensions: height - 10,3 cm; diameter - 28,5 cm. Weight: 1392 g.

Provenance: private collection, Lyon, France.

Conditions report: bowl in very good condition for the age. Hardly visible hairline from the top-rim (last picture) . Minimal firing faults. Minor wear to enamels in places. UV- and strong white light tested. Check pictures for details.
