A large Egyptian alabaster jar, Old Kingdom
A large Egyptian alabaster jar, Old Kingdom, c. 2686 - 2134 BC, carved from translucent material with beautiful banding. The vessel is thick-walled, the body tapering to a flattened foot, the shoulders rounded with narrow opening with no evidence of a rim or remnants of a neck. H: 6 3/4 in (17.2 cm). The interior is well-hollowed with light deposits inside and out. Ex Southern California private collection.
