A large Yortan culture ceramic jug from Anatolia
A large Yortan culture ceramic jug from Anatolia, Early Bronze Age II, c. 2700 - 2400 BC, the bulbous body supported by three tapered legs, a squat neck with a tall, beaked spout with rounded rim and looped handle. Around the sides of the body are three tapered protrusions and a small suspension loop. Remains of black burnished surfaces in areas, the ware itself a carbon-like black color from the heavy reduction in the firing process. H: 13 ¼ in (33.6 cm); W: 8 ¼ in (21 cm). Repair to base of spout and handle, some losses to end of protrusions. White surface deposits. Ex New York private collection.
