A large and beautiful Etrusco-Corinthian olpe

A large and beautiful Etrusco-Corinthian olpe, c. 625 - 575 BC, the ovoid body with narrow foot and horizontal ridge at the base of the neck. The mouth is widely flared with a single strap handle. The vessel is decorated with wide horizontal bands of dark slip which has been beautifully incised with a scale-like pattern; groups of vertical tongue around the shoulder and X's flank the base of the handle. H: 8 1/2 in (21.6 cm). In choice condition with light deposits. Ex Pennsylvania private collection previously purchased from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology in 1965.
