A large collection of Roman glass vessels and unguentaria

circa 1st-4th centuries C.E.

Comprising four globular unguentaria, three candlestick unguentaria, two conical unguentaria, one amphora-form unguentarium, one amber two-handled alabastron with applied spiral decoration, one amber figural alabastron, one double balsamarium, two round open vessels, one amber glass oenochoe on modern stand, one lekythos with applied spiral decoration, and one small amphora; all with varying amounts of lustre. (18).

Sold by Rodeph Shalom Synagogue, Philadelphia, to benefit future programs.

The Rosaline Feinstein Collection of Ancient Israelite Artifacts at the Philadelphia Museum of Judaica encompassed over 100 objects ranging in age from 300,000B.C.E. to 500 C.E. Many of the items were personally chosen for or given to Mrs. Feinstein by Dr. Nelson Glueck (American., 1900-1971), the noted rabbi, archaeologist, and president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Rosaline Feinstein and her husband, Meyer Feinstein, are also the founding donors of The Meyer & Rosaline Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University.
