A large lacquer sumiaka box. Edo period, 17th century
Of rectangual shape with rounded corners. The lid and parts of the body displaying large peony blossoms, branches and leaves in gold and silver hiramaki-e on a black lacquer ground, other parts of the body covered with red laqcuered cloth. Two metal fittings with rings for a cord.
