A large lacquered and gilded wood figure of Miroku Bosatsu. Edo period, 18th century or earlier
Seated in meditation with hands in dhyana mudra on a large lotus throne above a stepped and highly ornamental base including a recumbent shishi carrying an open lotus flower. The eyes of glass, the urna missing, wearing a large crown, rich jewellery to the chest and bracelets of copper and glass beads. Behind the figure a mandorla with scrolls in openwork.
