A late 19th century Austrian enamel gilt metal mounted novelty vinaigrette, Vienna circa 1890 Modelled as a violin. The body with painted decoration of a Watteauesque couple reclining against a tree, attended to with a musician playing a lute, later over painted to the tree, all surmounted by heavenly putti. The reverse with a hinged circular section opening to reveal a pull-out pierced grill. The lid painted with a peasant couple with a dog and sheep, the upper section painted with two figures in 18th century dress toasting each other. The tailpiece and fingerboard in black enamel. Length – 13.6 cm / 5.45 inches
