A late 19th century Indian silver tea pot Kutch, circa 1890

A late 19th century Indian silver tea pot Kutch, circa 1890 In the style of Oomersi Mawji, the small body of spherical form heavily decorated in repousse, with scrollwork, rosettes and birds, including peacocks, the hinged curved cover surmounted with a standing elephant finial, angular handle, all on four leaf-capped scroll feet, height 13cm, weight 13.3oz, weight 415gms. Footnotes: From A Private collection of Indian and Burmese Colonial Silver Literature: TheVictoria and Albert Museum. Kutch silver was always decorated from the outside, after the piece had been made to the required shape and filled with a mixture of black wax and resin. This mixture absorbed the shock of the hammers and punches used to form the patterns, and was easily removed by heating to melting point when the design was finished, allowing the inside to be smoothed. The outside was then cleaned, and the decorative details burnished. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
