A late 19th / early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl, probably Mandalay circa 1900 of compressed circular form with embossed decoration a continuous frieze of figures from the Ramayana, with Ravana kidnapping Sita in his Pushpaka Viman to take her to Lanka, as well as Sita and Lakshmana sitting on a tree stump in the forest waiting for Rama, also warriors upon a caparisoned elephant. All reserved with a textured ‘wall paper’ background, below a chased folaite scroll and rosette border. The underside chased with an encircled peacock in display. Height – 13.5 cm / 5.25 inches Diameter – 17.5 cm / 6.85 inches Weight – 705 grams / 22.66 ozt
