Silver. Engraved floral decoration. Hallmarked (Rosenberg IV, hallmark number 7861, inventory hallmark number 7881), master's mark CB in the oval, master 1804-1834 (Reitzner, number 1084, page 199). Height 24 cm. 477 g.

The Gustl Kaiser of Kiel Art Ceramics and Her Life with Hedwig Marquardt, 2011. Konietzy, Joachim (ed.): Briefe an Lotte Boltze aus den Jahren 1922-1931, Pansdorf 2013. The artist was born in Biere near Magdeburg and first trained as an art teacher in Kassel, followed by her art studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule Magdeburg and the Academy in Munich 1906-1909. After her time in Munich, Marquardt lived in Berlin until 1912, where she became acquainted with the works of the German and international avant-garde. In 1913, she may also have attended the \"First German Autumn Salon\"" founded by Herwarth Walden, the founder of the gallery \""Der Sturm\"", where the Orphists and Cubists, including Robert Delaunay, exhibited alongside the artists of the Blaue Reiter. After the First World War, Marquardt also turned to the field of ceramics. From 1922 she lived with the ceramist Augusta Kaiser (1895-1932) and moved to Hanover in 1927, where she taught until 1949. It is only recently that the work of both artists has been adequately appreciated; in 2013, the Frauenmuseum Wiesbaden dedicated the exhibition \""Auguste Kaiser - Hedwig Marquardt - Ein Künstlerinnenpaar\"" to them.
