A lovely Amlash steatopygous female idol

A lovely Amlash steatopygous female idol, c. 1000 - 800 BC, depicted standing with exaggerated hips and buttocks, short arms and small breasts, and a tall pointed head with lobed ears and angular nose. Steatopygous is a term for people having prominent or excessively large buttocks and the style was scene on female idols of the time and is found on figures as far west as Europe where other features are commonly exaggerated such as the breasts, mostly relating to fertility. H: 4 3/4 in (12.1 cm). Moderate surface mineralization and with custom lucite base. Ex collection of Mary Bert Gutman, PA.
