A lovely Egyptian faience amulet of Taweret, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, the patron of childbirth and a protector of women and children is depicted in her popular for as a standing hippopotamus wearing long wig, pendulous human breasts and arms with hands at her pregnant belly; Nile crocodile tail at back. She stands on an integral base and is finely detailed with remnants of pale green glaze; suspension loop at her back. H: 4.1 cm. Ex estate of Bernard Edison, St. Louis.
