A mahogany chair back settee, late 18th century and later, the Cockpen style double chair back with conforming arms above the drop-in seat and square section supports, 76cm high, 125cm wide, 41cm deepProvenance: Berwick House, ShropshireWith an old handwritten paper label stating Rout Settee, from the Bath Assembly RoomsThe National trust have an image of a 'Rout Seat' in their archive that matches the example offered here, there is also a photograph in Bath Central Library of a three-seat version. Robert Cruikshank's The Fancy Ball at the Upper Rooms Bath (1825) features a pair of these seats in the lower right cornerCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, consistent with age and use,Some chips and losses, old splits and cracks,Overall with a polished appearance, The upholstered seat with marks and stains, this is later upholstered, the rails appear to be original, there are old tack marksThe cross-rails to the frame appear to be later (either replacements or later inserted elements).
