A maki-e lacquer suzuribako. 19th century
The lid and sides decorated with blossoming hagi and a large rising red august moon in hiramaki-e and red lacquer on a black and nashiji ground, very small details in kirikane. To the inside nashiji the inside of the lid with a landscape with a waterfall, a palace and fishing boats, and houses by a shore on the bottom part. The tray with an ink stone and a bronze water dropper with a wild goose above waves.
