A matched pair of early George III silver candlesticks, each on gadrooned square base with shell and foliate scroll detail, rising to a knopped stem with wrythen fluted base and terminating in a spool-shaped socket, with crest engraving, further gadroon borders throughout and later decorated with floral and diaper pattern motifs, each with conforming swirl fluted removable nozzle. Hallmarked William Cafe, London 1760/1762. Height including nozzle 11" (28cm), gross weight 49.2 ozt (1530 grams).

Condition Report:
- Both appear quite tarnished throughout with some residues of polish.
- Displaying expected surface wear, marks and scratches in keeping with the age and use.
- Some visible seam lines and minor surface dints and bruises.
- Heavier wear around edges and corners.
- One of the pair with likely repairs to stem, just below the socket, appears a different tone with pitting.
- Both with heavy residues of black substance seen to the underside of bases indicating possible repairs.
- Engraved crests located around the bases of sockets, depicting a lion and a forearm holding a dagger.
- Hallmarks located to inner edge of one side of base rim and therefore very slightly clipped. Maker's marks appear a little rubbed and distorted, but other hallmarks good. Various scratch marks and numbers visible. Lion passant mark partly visible to sockets?
- Removable nozzles a fairly good fit. With repairs. Some residues of wax.
- One nozzle with lion passant visible and part of maker's mark along edge but partly cut off. Other nozzle with traces of lion passant only.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
